Klosterlunden

Klosterlunden

Right in the centre of Ringsted, behind Sct. Bendts Church is Klosterlunden, a light and airy urban park with many large, beautiful trees (beech, maple, willow, pedunculate oak, hornbeam, elm, hawthorn, Norway spruce, common beech, ash and pear).

There are several benches placed at different vantage points and a sensory garden with different herbs in connection with the church. At the end of the park is also a playground and a pavilion.

The park boasts several sculptures: Pontus Kjerman’s “Satyr, Cat and Elephant” from 1995 and Jan Leth’s “confined movement towards the sky” from 1987.

Klosterlunden was originally part of Ringsted Monastery, which burned to the ground in 1806. Only Sct. Bendts Church survived, albeit with heavy damage. The monastery land was subject to the Bügelske Fideikommis, established in 1814, and after many years of negotiations, Ringsted Municipality was finally able to take over the main farm’s land in 1917.
